Hollywood Themed Classroom Pictures...just a start.

I finally got some pictures taken of my Hollywood Movie themed 5th grade classroom.  Hope you enjoy- I will try to post more when it is all done!

This is my AR wall.  Each student has their name on a popcorn piece and when they reach their goal they get to put their piece in the bucket.  As you can see, my old 1960s school does not have ANY bulletin boards, so I have to improvise.  I can't help but dream of how much nicer my room would look with bulletin boards...AND storage!

This is a brag wall for excellent work.  I made the signs by hand.  Again, another improvised bulletin board.  It takes about a roll of masking tape to stick up all that bulletin board paper!  But I am somewhat happy with the end result.  It will look better with papers on it!

This is my classroom rules reel.  My rules are Be A Star and each letter of S-T-A-R stands for something that is a rule in our classroom!

This is the start of the back wall in my room, where I write my daily objectives.  There is a table in front of it where I meet with students for reading groups or where students can work together.
I also have a mini-board that says "Text Features are the Ticket" then I created tickets with many examples of text features.

Class jobs board- all are on popcorn buckets and movie themed.  See my teachers pay teachers store for the chart and examples of class jobs!

Thanks, Vista Print, for this awesome car door magnet that I will use for No Name Papers!

Front wall- used my two file cabinets put next to each other to make a magnetic bulletin board.  I love it!  Dollar Store has magnets right now that are 9 or 10 for a dollar and they work perfectly for this!
Also, where it says "Showtimes" will be my class schedule...as soon as I know what it is!
I will use popcorn buckets for reading groups- to place work and books in.
Also, the cup I created has CUPSS information for writing.

Teachers Pay Teachers Store!

I am really excited to start a Teachers Pay Teachers store.  I reallllly love that site and used it a LOT last year, as did many of my coworkers.  I finally realized that I make a lot of my own stuff that others might like, and have started my own store.  Please check it out.  Just like this blog, I will continue to add to it all the time.  I hope you like it!  Follow me if you do.

Classroom theme?

For several years I did not do a theme in my classroom.  I had never really thought about it.  Then one of my coworkers was talking about her bug theme and how her students love it and how she had begun collecting all this very cool buggy stuff over the years and I started considering my options.  Then I decided to go with a movie theme in my classroom 2 years ago and I am still working on it.  This week I plan to make a second trip to my room to try and get some things up and take some pictures.  I am also really excited about the new things that I received in the mail from quill.com today that go along with my theme.

So my question is-- do you have a theme in your classroom?  If so, what is it?  Do you change it every year?  I know some people do, but with a little one in daycare, my husband would have a coronary if I tried to do that!  So I'll just stick with my movie theme for now and work on projects to make it more interesting.

Comment below! Also feel free to post links to your blog posts on classroom themes or to pictures of your classrooms!  I loooove seeing other rooms in other schools.  Although I do get envious when I see STORAGE and BULLETIN BOARDS!  These are things that my school and classroom are desperately lacking!  All of my cabinets have wheels and my "bulletin boards" are just butcher paper taped to the wall or border put up to create rectangles on cinder block walls.  Sigh...

Pretty new to this blogging thing...

So I am pretty new to the whole blogging idea.  Well, writing them, that is.  I have been reading and getting amazing ideas from other teachers for many years from their blogs.  I also did a blog when I was pregnant with my son a couple of years ago.  The other day I just realized that maybe it was time for me to combine two of my loves...teaching and writing.  I couldn't think of a better way than with this blog.  Bear with me while I get familiarized with all the technology.

I hope that you decide to follow my blog and go with me on a journey into some uncharted territory in the new school year.  No, I am not a new teacher.  I have been teaching 5th grade for the past eight years, but...we are going to be getting a new reading series this year AND we are working on incorporating more of the Common Core into both Reading and Math.  Yikes!  Something tells me this is going to be a learning curve.  I am starting to feel like a rookie just thinking about it!
